MentorCloud: Roundtables

PROJECT

MentorCloud provides a global, cloud-based mentoring platform for schools and organizations. As a member of MentorCloud, you can search for mentorships and connect and collaborate across boarders. MentorCloud is currently in the process of re-designing the entire site (scheduled to launch 2015) and asked our team to look into how they could increase the percentage of completed user profiles through design and reduce drop-off.

PROBLEM

Following a series of usability studies and interviews, we were able to uncover six (6) primary user pain points incurred during the onboarding flow that could be optimized to reduce drop-off.

Primary pain points uncovered were:

  1. Landing Page
    • Lack of clarity on the platform's value proposition leaving users unsure if they want to devote the time to begin the process or why they should.
    • Unnecessary steps in initial account creation.
    • Misuse of design features ie using radio buttons leaving the user unaware they could sign-up as both a mentor and mentee.
  2. Progress Tracking
    • For the two-sided platform to meet its value proposition heavy information input is needed from the user. With no transparency to the user on how long the profile creation flow will take or where they are in the process, users often became frustrated and failed to complete the flow.

  3. User Information and Preferences Page

  4. Mentee/Mentor Information and Preferences Page

  5. Mentor Recommendation Page
